The Covid-19 pandemic has upended the lives of countless people around the globe in just a snap of a finger. Our way of living drastically changes and most of us don't know how to cope up with our current situation since we’ve only just experienced it. Furthermore, it becomes a major concern of the people and government across the world due to its impact, especially on public health. Governments of various countries immediately implemented strict restrictions to curb the worsening spread of the disease which has been causing a dramatic loss of individuals worldwide. That’s why health professionals came up with a study to create a vaccine that will prevent the spread of the virus in the world.

Since the outbreak of the virus happened, making Covid-19 vaccines is one of the solutions found by experts to reduce the number of infected individuals. It aims to reduce the mortality rate of the virus and end this unprecedented situation. Experts suggested having a global vaccination so that we can have a transition to whatever situation we are in today. With that being said how can this vaccination drive help during this time of pandemic?

● Vaccination is an effective way of protecting you against harmful diseases before you come into contact with them. ● The created vaccines by the experts will train our immune system to create antibodies, just as it does when it’s exposed to a disease. ● This can reduce the risk of getting a disease by working with your body’s natural defense to build protection.

Even though the vaccines have proven to reduce and even completely cease diseases, some people still refuse to get vaccinated. News circulating day by day about the issues faced by the newly created vaccines might have been their basis such as unethical practices and is sometimes mistaken as containing the Covid-19 virus itself that often evoke fear that adds up to their hesitation to get vaccinated.

Here are some Common Misconceptions about Covid-19 vaccines:

1. Covid-19 vaccines contains microchips.

Fact: Covid-19 vaccines do not contain any microchips. If your basis is the Facebook video which has been shared a thousand times, then this video is making false claims. The company behind those videos has an optional version of its product that contains microchips within the syringe label that help providers confirm a vaccine dose origin. The chip itself is not injected into the person getting the vaccine.

2. You can get Covid-19 from the vaccine

Fact: you cannot get Covid-19 from the vaccine because it doesn’t contain the live virus

3. Once I receive the vaccine, I will test positive for Covid-19

Fact: since there are no live viruses in the vaccine, the vaccine will not affect your test results. It is possible to get infected with the virus before the vaccine has had time to fully protect your body.

4. There are severe side effects when vaccinated

Fact: Just like any vaccine, Covid-19 vaccines can cause mild side effects such as low-grade fever, pain or redness at the injection site. More serious or long-lasting side effects to vaccines are possible but rare. The chances of side effects might differ according to the specific Covid-19 vaccine injected to you.

5. The AstraZeneca vaccine is dangerous

Fact: World Health Organization Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety has found out that the AstraZeneca vaccine is effective at preventing serious side effects of Covid-19 infection that can cause hospitalization and death. The benefit of the vaccine is greater than the risk of getting rare side effects.

Giving clarifications to some of the misconceptions about Covid-19 vaccine, Is it still necessary to be fastidious when it comes to the Covid-19 vaccine we should take particularly here in the Philippines? Given the fact that the vaccines offered here are free of charge and are sometimes limited. Yes, we should not invalidate the sentiments of other citizens about covid vaccines, that it is still our choice what vaccine we want to inject cause it is our own body but we still have to think that we can’t espy our opponent so if we will look on the bright side, it’s been a huge opportunity being vaccinated nowadays especially the number of Covid cases here in the Philippines is not decreasing and stabilizes yet. So if you have any chance to get vaccinated grab it because it will not only help us but also the community. If you are hesitant to get vaccinated due to breaking news about vaccines, know how to scrutinize the news you receive and don’t let false claims threaten you and undermine the opportunities to get back to our normal way of living. Moreover, Educating people helps to build trust in the decision to offer vaccinations so that it can lead to a decision making process and let the public get vaccinated.
